Netflix unveiled the first extended footage of Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia during their boxing broadcast of Canelo Álvarez vs. Terence Crawford on September 13, officially setting the stage for The Witcher Season 4’s premiere on October 30 (IGNHollywood Reporter).

The action-packed clip shows Hemsworth’s Geralt battling a spectral wraith with his signature Witcher Signs—first unleashing Aard to push the creature back, then deploying Yrden to trap it in a magical snare, and finally crushing the wraith’s glowing core, causing it to dissolve into dark ash. This scene offers the most substantial glimpse yet of Hemsworth’s interpretation following his casting announcement in October 2022, after Henry Cavill’s departure.

Boxing Match Reveals New Geralt

Netflix strategically debuted the trailer during the high-profile fight at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, pairing the Halloween-adjacent premiere timing with showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich’s promise that Season 4 marks “the beginning of a two-season journey for our family to finally reunite and be together—hopefully forever.”

Hemsworth Steps Into Cavill’s Boots

Nearly three years after Cavill announced he would leave the series—citing creative differences—Hemsworth, best known for The Hunger Games franchise, expressed he was “over the moon” to take on the role and honored that Cavill was “handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter” (AOL).

Season 4 will drop all eight episodes simultaneously on October 30, ending Netflix’s recent volume-release approach. The official synopsis teases that “after the Continent-altering events of Season Three, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri find themselves separated by a raging war and countless enemies.”

Final Seasons Approach

Season 4 is the penultimate installment, with Season 5 confirmed as the series finale that will adapt the remaining novels—Baptism of FireThe Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake. Notable new cast members include Laurence Fishburne as Regis and Sharlto Copley as Leo Bonhart, while Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Freya Allan (Ciri) return to maintain continuity despite the major recasting of Geralt.
