Manchester United announced record revenues of £666.5 million for the 2024–25 season, a 0.7% increase over the previous year, despite finishing 15th in the Premier League— their lowest position since 1974—and missing out on European competition (BBCSportcal).

Dramatic Reduction in Losses

The club’s net loss shrank 70.8%, falling from £113.2 million to £33 million. This improvement was driven by cost-cutting initiatives under co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, including the redundancy of over 250 staff.

  • Employee benefit expenses dropped 14.1% to £313.2 million, a reduction of £51.5 million.
  • Operating expenses fell 4.5% overall.
  • EBITDA rose to £182.8 million, the highest for any European club since the COVID-19 pandemic began (Sportcal).

Commercial and Matchday Revenue Records

  • Commercial revenue reached a record £333.3 million, up 10% year-on-year, led by the front-of-shirt sponsorship extension with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon brand—worth £60 million per year through 2029.
  • Matchday revenue climbed 17% to £160.3 million, marking the highest matchday haul by any English club.

Broadcast Revenue Impact

Broadcast income fell £48.9 million to £172.9 million, reflecting United’s Europa League campaign instead of Champions League participation.

Prospects and Priorities

Manchester United forecasts revenue of £640 million–£660 million for 2025–26, citing continued absence from Europe. The club appointed Ruben Amorim in November 2024, incurring £36.6 million in exceptional severance costs for former manager Erik ten Hag. CEO Omar Berrada emphasized that, while financial resilience is clear, improving on-field performance remains the club’s “overriding priority” (SI).
